Go outside and be ACTIVE!
While we strive to be active during the day with engaging lessons that get students up and moving, by the time students go home their brains need a break and their bodies need exercise so they can remain focused the next day!
Play Dates!
During first grade students become aware of social situations and begin making their first true friendships. Social and emotional development is key to students' success! You can help students build confidence, gain friendships, and expand their problem-solving strategies by giving them multiple opportunities for free play with friends!
Read, baby, READ!
At home, the best way you can help students with their academics is by reading! In first grade students are working on their "storyteller voice" as well as diving deeper into the meaning of stories by making text-to-self connections with texts. Students need to hear your storyteller voice so they can model after your fluency, speed, and inflection.
Make it fun!
You can set up a theater at home and act out what is happening in the stories you are reading!
Model Great Reading
The best way to help your student read is by reading with them. You can read a page or a book, and then they can read a page or a book. This way they can copy your fabulous storyteller voice to improve their fluency!

Word Study
Students can sort their words into the correct categories and then choose an activity from their word study menu. The more they interact with their words, the more these words and phonetic patterns will appear in their writing.
Make it active!
Students can do jumping jacks, throw a football, kick a soccer ball, or paint their words!

Singapore Math
Check out our weekly newsletters to stay updated with what we are doing and fun games you can try at home to build skills. Occasionally we will send home extra math practice to help you understand what we are doing in class. Unless otherwise specified, these packets are not required, but will help you understand the Singapore Math processes we are using in class.
